Rep. Aaron Bernstine has been appointed as chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads for the 2025-26 Legislative Session by House Republican Transportation Committee Chairman Kerry Benninghoff. Bernstine, who represents a district impacted by recent rail incidents such as the Norfolk Southern train derailments in East Palestine, Ohio, and New Castle, emphasized the importance of safety and oversight.

“The safety and well-being of our communities is a top priority, and these recent derailments have underscored the need for strong oversight and enhanced safety standards,” stated Bernstine. He expressed his commitment to ensuring Pennsylvania’s railroads operate safely with a focus on preventing future incidents similar to those in East Palestine and New Castle.

Bernstine also plans to advocate for investments in infrastructure and technology aimed at improving the efficiency and resilience of rail systems. The goal is to support economic growth while meeting community demands.

The Subcommittee on Railroads is responsible for overseeing economic safety regulations concerning railroads, pipeline safety, transportation of hazardous materials, and related regulatory agencies.

In addition to his new role, Bernstine serves on the House Insurance and Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations committees. His focus will include modernizing rail infrastructure, promoting economic development through improved rail connectivity, and ensuring efficient transportation of goods vital to Pennsylvania’s industries.
