HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today expressed his full confidence and support in Congressman Mike Kelly’s (R-Butler/Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer/Venango) leadership as he spearheads the investigation into the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump in Butler on July 13. The shooting tragically resulted in one death and two serious injuries.

Kelly sponsored a resolution, approved by the U.S. House of Representatives last month, to establish a special task force dedicated to investigating the incident. The task force, supported by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, will have subpoena power and operate with fewer procedural hurdles, enabling a swift and thorough investigation.

“I have complete confidence in Rep. Kelly’s ability to lead this investigation with integrity and resolve,” said Bernstine. “He attended this event with family members, including his grandchildren, and saw firsthand the shooting as it unfolded. The people of Pennsylvania, and the entire nation, deserve clear answers about how this tragedy occurred and how we can prevent anything like it from happening again. I stand behind Rep. Kelly and the task force to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.”

Kelly emphasized the importance of a detailed and impartial investigation, saying, “The goals of my legislation and of this task force are simple: investigate, detail and explain the shooting and security breakdowns that caused death and injury, and nearly claimed the life of former President Trump. We must never let something like this happen again.”

The task force met Monday at the Butler Farm Show grounds and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
