State Representative Marla Brown announced that $300,000 in state funding has been allocated for water and sewer projects throughout Lawrence County. The funds come from the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program, which supports municipalities and municipal authorities in upgrading essential infrastructure.
“These projects focus on fixing problems before they become emergencies,” said Brown. “This funding will help local municipalities modernize aging systems, reduce the risk of backups and flooding, and make sure residents have reliable service without placing the full cost on local taxpayers.”
Three projects were awarded funding:
– The Lawrence Hickory Municipal Authority will receive $100,000 to upgrade the Cameron Road sewage pump station in Hickory Township. The project aims to replace outdated equipment to improve efficiency and lower electrical costs.
– North Beaver Township Municipal Authority is set to get $100,000 for new grinder pumps across its service area. These upgrades are intended to prevent wastewater backups by replacing pumps that are over 20 years old.
– Wilmington Township was granted $100,000 to install new storm sewer lines along Eden Dale Road. This work will replace a failing private drainage system with a publicly owned stormwater system to reduce flooding risks.
The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants for water, sewer, stormwater, and flood control projects with budgets between $30,000 and $500,000. Funding can be used for construction or improvement of various water management systems. The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved these grants as part of its broader role in administering programs that support infrastructure development across Pennsylvania.
