Rep. Marla Brown has announced the allocation of $83,000 in grants aimed at enhancing recreational facilities in Lawrence County and New Castle City. The funding comes from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2), which is managed by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

“Parks and recreation centers provide gathering places for families and social groups, as well as for individuals of all ages and economic status,” stated Brown. “These grants will help ensure our communities have safe, accessible spaces for recreation, while also enhancing the beauty and functionality of our local parks. Thanks to the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, Lawrence County and New Castle City will be able to improve and preserve these important public spaces for future generations to enjoy.”

Lawrence County will receive $13,400 to develop a master site plan for the 1-acre Lawrence County Veterans Park. New Castle City is set to receive $69,600 dedicated to rehabilitating Farrell Park. This project includes constructing a pedestrian walkway, parking area, installing play equipment, and necessary safety surfacing.

The C2P2 program provides financial and technical assistance for various organizations involved in park planning, acquisition, development, conservation projects, among others.
