Rep. Marla Brown announced that the Lawrence County Historical Society has received an $8,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). The funding is part of the Cultural and Historical Grant Program. It will assist in covering operating expenses, including gas heating for the society’s office and historic home.

The facilities house extensive archival records and artifacts that require specific temperature and humidity levels for preservation. The funds aim to ensure that the society can maintain the proper environment to safeguard Lawrence County’s heritage, providing valuable resources for public research and education.

“This funding is critical to preserving Lawrence County’s rich history,” said Brown. “The Lawrence County Historical Society does incredible work in safeguarding our past, and I’m proud to support its ongoing efforts to educate and inspire future generations.”

The Lawrence County Historical Society maintains a 1905 historical home and museum, offers educational programs, and provides extensive research resources to the public.
