Rep. Aaron Bernstine has announced that Wampum Borough in Lawrence County will receive a $400,000 state grant to address critical infrastructure needs. The funds will be used for a comprehensive upgrade of the borough’s water system, specifically focusing on replacing outdated lead water lines with modern materials.

“This grant is a game-changer for Wampum Borough,” stated Bernstine. “It will directly improve the health and safety of residents by replacing outdated lead water lines, which have long been a public concern.” He emphasized that these improvements are expected to enhance both the community’s drinking water quality and overall infrastructure, contributing to a better quality of life for current and future residents.

The project plans include replacing approximately 8,000 linear feet of old lead pipes with new 6-inch ductile iron water lines. Additional tasks involve reconnecting non-lead-containing water services, connecting to the existing system, and installing new valves and fire hydrants. Construction-related disruptions will also be addressed as part of the project.

This funding comes from the Local Share Account grant program, supported by state gaming revenues and managed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), which oversees investments in Pennsylvania’s economic development.
