Lawrence County Schools issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.

A great leader is a difference maker!  This was the theme of the 4th Annual LCSS CTE Leadership Summit hosted virtually on Friday.  Although this day looked very different from years past it was still an awesome day inspiring Lawrence County students.

Hundreds of Career & Technical Education students logged onto a livestream link and watched many dynamic and encouraging speakers.  Loretto High School students were able to watch together socially distanced in their auditorium.

The day began with a welcome from Governor Bill Lee followed by an amazing presentation by Lawrence County Director of Schools, Michael Adkins.  Ryan Egly, President of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce shared the importance of being a difference maker and the effects of such on our community.

The first keynote speaker was Kayleen McCabe, a DIY Network host and female construction/carpenter from Colorado.  Her energy along with her experiences and love for power tools certainly won the students over.

Following a short break, LCSS CTE students were treated to a wonderful presentation & performance by the band, Cain.  Cain currently has a #3 song on the charts and were gracious enough to take time out of their schedule to surprise the CTE students of LCSS.

The current Executive Director of SkillsUSA and alumni of Summertown High School, Chelle Travis, spoke to CTE students about the importance of being a difference maker and the importance of being enrolled in CTE courses.  Mrs. Travis has served in many different capacities in the world of Career and Technical Education that have been stepping stones to her new prestigious position in Washington, DC.

The final keynote speaker was United States Olympic Gold Medalist, Connor Fields.  Connor shared a wonderful message of how important it is to lean on the difference makers in your life and that you can't make a difference in others lives until you make a difference in your own.  Connor gained many fans that will be cheering him on at the Olympics in 2021!

Throughout the day QR codes were flashed on the screens to allow for check-ins and interactions of CTE students watching on the livestream.

Below you will find a link to the first half of the 4th Annual LCSS CTE Leadership Summit that was hosted by CTE Director, Shannon Watson.  The day was organized and coordinated by the CTE Teachers of Loretto High School, Summertown High School, and Lawrence County High School.
