Unwrapping the Names of Jesus
Lion of Judah
Many of us are familiar with C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In it he offers the lion Aslan, who rules Narnia and exemplifies many of the characteristics of Jesus. When Lucy asks Mr. Beaver if Aslan is safe, he tells her of course he isn't safe; but he's good. He's the King.
Jesus can often be portrayed as a gentle and meek Caucasian man with long flowing hair. But remember the many, many attributes of Jesus, and do not confuse humility with weakness.
Jesus was not a pushover. He was strong and fierce, like a lion. The title "Lion of Judah" reminds us of Jesus' valor, sovereignty, and faithfulness. We know He is good, and one day the enemies of the Lion of Judah will scatter in fear. Let us remember that while he is our comforter and our friend, Jesus is all powerful. And let us posture our hearts in humble adoration to the only One who is worthy of it.
