Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) announced today that more than $430,000 in impact fees paid by Marcellus Shale drilling companies will benefit residents of the 9th Legislative District.
“During these difficult economic times, this funding will assist with important services and projects throughout Lawrence County,” said Brown. “The natural gas industry has created new jobs and opportunities in our communities, and this funding is another reminder of the importance of this industry in Pennsylvania.”
The state Public Utility Commission (PUC) disclosed the following impact fee revenue amounts for Lawrence County and eligible municipalities within the 9th District:
- Bessemer Borough: $1,201
- Hickory Township: $3,607
- Mahoning Township: $41,695
- New Wilmington Borough: $2,040
- Neshannock Township: $21,086
- North Beaver Township: $31,038
- Pulaski Township: $82,046
- Shenango Township: $9,720
- S.N.P.J. Borough: $96
- South New Castle: $863
- Taylor Township: $1,709
- Union Township: $6,334
- Wilmington Township: $4,415
Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The remaining funds go into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund. A portion of this fund is provided to counties while the rest is used by the state for emergency response planning and training; water, stormwater, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.
Checks to municipalities are expected to be distributed in early July.
