The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has awarded a $7.3 million grant to Taylor Township for significant upgrades to its wastewater system, according to an announcement by Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence).
“This investment is great news for Taylor Township residents,” said Brown. “Upgrading the wastewater system will improve service reliability, protect public health and help preserve the environment for future generations. I am grateful to see this kind of targeted funding come to our community.”
The grant will be used to modernize the township’s wastewater treatment operations. Planned improvements include installing a permanent flow meter and digital recording system, replacing outdated analog equipment, converting existing aeration tanks into sequencing batch reactor treatment tanks, and adding a new aerobic digester and ultraviolet disinfection system. The project will also address the removal of sewage sludge from the existing outfall channel, construction of a new 18-inch outfall channel, and establishment of a routine sludge removal schedule. Additionally, the old comminutor and chlorine contact tank will be permanently decommissioned.
PENNVEST was established in 1988 and provides grants and low-interest loans for the design, engineering, and construction of drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as stormwater and wastewater projects.
