NEW CASTLE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Arrest Statutory Sexual Assault

New Castle Police Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 01.

ARREST STATUTORY SEXUAL ASSAULT 

The NCPD has made an arrest following an investigation which began as a missing juvenile case in June of 2020.  The investigation showed that a male from Lafayette, Indiana identified as Matthew FERGUSON (25) was communicating with the 14-year-old runaway juvenile.

NCPD detectives were able to subsequently locate the juvenile in Lafayette, Indiana by utilizing the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department.   Investigators did determine that FERGUSON did have another male bring the juvenile back to Indiana from New Castle for him and that the two did engage in sex while she was there. 

A forensic interview was conducted on the juvenile and the juvenile did admit to having a sexual relationship with FERGUSON. Detectives did conduct an interview with FERGUSON and FERGUSON did admit to having sex with the juvenile both in Indiana and in New Castle.

FERGUSON is currently in custody in Lafayette, Indiana and will be extradited back to New Castle to face charges here. 

FERGUSON is being charged with Statutory sexual assault, Aggravated indecent assault, Indecent assault by a person less that 16 years old and interference with the custody of children.  

The NCPD is in contact with federal authorities and state authorities in Indiana to determine if additional charges will be filed.
