Public school districts receive $1.5M for facility upgrades in Pennsylvania

State Rep. Marla Brown | Pennsylvania 9th Legislative District

Rep. Marla Brown of Lawrence has announced a significant funding allocation for public school districts within the 9th Legislative District. A total of $1.5 million will be distributed through the Commonwealth Financing Authority's Public School Facility Improvement Grant program, aimed at upgrading infrastructure in three local school districts.

Brown stated, "This investment in our local schools is an investment in the future of our children and communities." She emphasized that by addressing essential needs such as HVAC, plumbing, and safety upgrades, these grants will provide necessary resources to support academic success. Brown added that there is a commitment to creating safe and modern learning environments for all students in the district.

The grants will be distributed as follows:

- Mohawk Area School District will receive $650,000 for various health and safety projects at Mohawk Elementary School.

- New Castle Area School District is allocated $200,000 for window replacement at George Washington Intermediate School.

- Union Area School District will benefit from $650,000 dedicated to a boiler replacement project at its middle/high school building.

Brown expressed her satisfaction with the funding support: "These improvements are long overdue, and I am proud to help support the funding that will ensure our schools can continue to provide a top-quality education in facilities that prioritize the well-being of students and staff."

The Public School Facility Improvement Grant program aims to deliver essential funding for facility improvements in public school districts. This initiative helps maintain schools' conditions while equipping them to meet 21st-century educational demands.
