Rep. Marla Brown, a Republican from Lawrence, announced significant financial backing for the Pennsylvania American Water Company to replace lead water service lines in New Castle. The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) is providing over $9.5 million in aid, consisting of a $5.6 million grant and a $4 million low-interest loan.

Brown expressed support for the initiative, stating, "This investment will help protect the health of New Castle families, ease the financial burden on ratepayers, and move our community toward a safer, more modern water infrastructure. I’m proud to support critical projects like this that put the well-being of our residents first.”

The New Castle Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) Phase 1 project plans to replace lead and lead-affected galvanized lines with lead-free copper lines for about 556 households. The aim is to provide safer drinking water and help the community meet environmental regulations. Without the project's assistance, local water rates might have risen by 66%.

PENNVEST, established in 1988, aids in the design and construction of drinking water, storm water, and wastewater facilities through grants and low-interest loans. Further details on PENNVEST can be found at their website. Representative Marla Brown can be contacted through Media Contact Rick Leiner at the provided numbers and email address.
