HARRISBURG – Several first responder companies in the 9th Legislative District will be receiving grant funding from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), according to Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence).
"First responders are at the core of our communities," said Brown. "Their dedication, determination, and cooperation are unmatched."
The grants, which are awarded to every emergency service organization that completes the application process, will support various projects such as the construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or the reduction of existing debt.
The following companies in the 9th District have been awarded grants:
- Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Company - $13,840.
- Mahoning Township Volunteer Fire Department - $14,229.
- Neshannock Township Volunteer Fire Company - $16,368.
- New Castle Fire Department - $14,984.
- New Wilmington Volunteer Fireman’s Association - $14,034.
- North Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department - $14,034.
- Pulaski Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,645.
- Pulaski Township Volunteer Fire Department (EMS) - $15,000.
- Shenango Area Fire District - $29,174.
- Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,062.
"All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding," Brown emphasized.
It is important to note that the funding for these grants comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming and not General Fund tax revenue.
The grants will undoubtedly provide much-needed support to these local fire and EMS companies, enabling them to continue their vital work of protecting and serving their communities.
